I agree with you there, as long as such attention is given only in the months following their change in status. Most people don't remember the surviving family of a lost person or posthumously decorated war heroes. The whole thing with Clayton was that he didn't know Hood was pulling the strings of his career until much later after he had already become a senior officer on major assignments. Cutter's daughter, though she might know Hood personally, could have filled much of the same role, if not fitting in those same shoes perfectly.
