OK; I don't really want the job and I'm not applying for it, but sure, why not
: Responsibilities: - Play and intimately understand the Halo universe.
: “Attention to detail” would be putting it lightly for your role
: understanding and communicating everything in Halo games and extended
: fiction.
As someone formerly diagnosed with OCD, I think I'm up to that.
: - Work closely and well with content partners in all forms of media, and
: represent Halo, 343 Industries, and Microsoft as a face for external
: partners and sometimes fans.
That could be difficult.
: - Plan, write, and edit all needed pivots on Halo lore, including (but not
: limited to) articles, scripts, and reference libraries and documentation.
: All of this material must be comprehensive and easy to understand even by
: partners new to Halo.
There's the really hard part of this writing job, the writing; I'm not so good at it, but a subject I really care about could change that, maybe, and I think I'd do better with the reference libraries and documentation.
: - Demonstrate daily judgment regarding how to balance the history of Halo
: against new opportunities to grow the universe, as well as creative
: problem-solving about how to blend those two needs when necessary.
That sounds like an interesting challenge, and one I think I might be up to, although I would be doubting myself and I have a feeling I would clash with people even if they're nice overall. As for problem solving, and being creative about it, I think I'm good at it.
: Qualifications: - Know and love the Halo universe to a degree that
: occasionally scares people.
I don't know if I have that, but I can try.
: - Proven ability (think: samples) to write and edit for many audiences; keep
: it entertaining AND correct.
Again, I don't know if I have that. Editing I can totally do, I can edit things nine ways from Sunday, and I can keep things correct in writing and editing, and I can try to be entertaining, with comedy or drama or whatever.
: - Organized, able to work on several tasks simultaneously and prioritize
: schedules and deliverables in a fast-paced, multi-project environment with
: challenging deadlines.
I'm not organized but I can be, if that makes sense. I'm not a neat freak but I have a neat-freak strain in me and I can make use of it with a little motivation. Schedules I'm not so good with but I do well under pressure.
: - Upbeat, positive attitude
yes :D
: and ability to work collaboratively with opinionated partners and team members
Having the family I have, I think I can do that.
: and deal with the ambiguity of the creative process.
seriously, I'm General Vagueness, if I can't handle ambiguity, someone can... maybe
: - Experience writing/editing game content and audio/video scripts is a big
: bonus (+10!).
That's 10... somethings I don't have... points, maybe?
: - Web publishing experience is a medium bonus (like, +7?).
+8 right here
: - Ability to design and create your own polished final documents using tools
: such as Adobe Photoshop/Bridge/InCopy/InDesign and Microsoft Office.
I have a lot of experience with MS Office, but who doesn't? I have a little experience with Photoshop and a little more experience with Paint.net, not a lot to go on. I don't even know what the other things are.
: - Be excited, but be ready. It’s going to be awesome.
I would hope so. If I had the skills, would I apply? I don't know. I would consider it, and maybe put more thought into answering these questions. As it stands I would be much more suited to the actual development side of things. I was thinking, if I had the skills, and there were multiple openings, I might lean more towards a writing position, because I could, well, fix things, and keep things from breaking or going downhill or being wrong or bad, but I think I'd have more of a problem if future Halo games aren't fun, and that's mostly in the programming and design, with the art and sound design and story coming after them.
