Monitization of Gaming Article on Gamasutra

TANK on 2old2play linked to this very interesting article on Gammasutra.

I have to admit I was previously very uninformed on this practice. I didn't know it was happening to this extent. I knew about games where you could buy your own Island and such but this article points to some very insidious behavior.

After reading the article I am not sure if the Halo titles fit any of the social engineering techniques mentioned.

I am okay with buying maps packs, episodic campaign (even with a cliff hanger, if I know about it in advance) and aesthetic features.
