I think playing as multiple characters is unlikely to happen again, especially in a main-line game. I think having a level where you have to outwit people rather than kill them is fine, but I think having that level in a first-person shooter is kind of an awful idea. At this point I only have a mild interest in Halo's story, more curiosity than anything else I think.
