"There is talk about having stats "turn over" and reset back to zero once you max out at 50 similar to a Call of Duty 'prestige-like' stat reset, but 343i didn't give much more detail as to why or what perks may be attached.
343i did say that they will serve overall resets semi-frequently. They believe resetting things from time to time will motivate people to keep playing and will continually give people new goals."
When Bungie did it in H2, even if due to all the cheaters, it was an extremely frustrating moment. People who had earned their ranks legitimately got caught in the crossfire. The game was already cheated and was going to continue to be cheated, so the rank reset was a joke when Bungie decided to do it. I could only imagine the uproar if Bungie had done it in H3. Now, if 343 handles this in a way where just every so often they go about resetting ranks, sure, why not just go and make CSR meaningless in H4? Hit that reset button. Resetting things from time to time might motivate people to keep playing and continually give people new goals, except that when you're resetting ranks and most likely not giving new goals, you're resetting the whole thing that matters in this playlist and making people less likely to play because you just made their goals a waste of time. I know I wouldn't be too happy getting reset all the time.
Now, if it really is handled like in CoD, where you have the option to Prestige/reset, then I can see that working. People love Prestige! But all that really did was give you extra customization slots, and H4 has a billion of those already. I guess it will depend on how 343 goes about handling it.
Also, if you lose games, will you lose your rank? Or is this going to be some carebear version of ranked gameplay where you always keep your highest level and can always improve on it because they want to hold your hand and never make you feel bad about yourself? If it stays static at your top rank, that could still be highly misleading, especially if you're not really anywhere near that rank and it continues to match you up with people of similar rank. TrueSkill has issues and always has, and could potentially make things problematic depending on how closely it's tied to CSR if CSR stays static. I guess we'll see when more is revealed or once it comes out.
