I think as UR said - it's the state the industry is in.
No-one is willing to take risks anymore, indie games aside - there's no imagination from the 'big' developers. Stepping back from the Halo fans we are - what have we got? 4 old games with some old maps getting online functionality. Aside from Halo, there's new Forza, new COD, new Battlefield, new FIFA, Madden, NHL, Tiger Woods, Mass Effect etc etc. Nothing genuinely 'new'.
I think the industry is running out of ideas - go back a few years and people were wow'd by games that now we've got multiple versions and styles of.
This is why it's somewhat annoying when things like Kinect aren't fully realised - but again, it's all about taking risks. Until someone does, it'll be like this for a while.
