: I believe it originated with Dan Chosich and his boys. Then oddworld and I
: made a slightly different variant which became the de facto FAE.

: Lockout. PP start, secondary random. Replace map weapons with covenant
: weapons (sticky-grenade bias). It's actually a 3-ball oddball gametype,
: but you don't pick up the ball except to kill. I don't remember the player
: traits. It's definitely been documented here before, I would think the
: archives have more info. Its PC name was FAE.

Oh man, where did oddworld end up? He's still on my friends list even though I haven't seen him on in years.

What I loved about FAE was all the meta games people played. People would go for most kills, most stickies, most beat downs, etc. And the best part was you had no idea who was "winning" because it was an Odball game and none of those stats were shown until the game was over. And then getting the game to end in the first place was hilarious because someone who'd finally had enough of a four hour game would start holding onto the Oddball if the host refused to stop. Then it became of game of prolonging the session by killing the person trying to end it.

Some of my all time favorite Halo moments took place on Lockout playing FAE. Lethal Industry had some stupid fun game types too: What's Your Framerate on Midship; White Man's Air on Turf; Field of Jenkins on Zanzibar; and Tower of IHOP on Ascension. Of course most of those were slight variations on other people's gametypes, but I always enjoyed Tower of IHOP better than Tower of Power because Brute Plasma Rifles really added something to being killed repeatedly with a mounted turret for an hour.

Bleh, thanks for the nostalgia trip.
