I got the first Splinter Cell used mostly so I could softmod my xbox through a save file exploit. Attempted to play it, but coming off of Chaos Theory, the entire game was a royal bitch and a little too unforgiving. At least that's my memory.
Never played Pandora Tomorrow.
Loved every second of Chaos Theory and take great enjoyment in fucking with the AI. Especially in the early missions. "Dece laight's broken!"
Attempted to play Double Agent on the 360, felt it was far too much of a departure (also not a huge fan of timed anything in games, which the 360 version, if memory serves, had in spades) and played the OXbox version instead. Enjoyed it, mostly. Still felt like a departure, and definitely watered down. It's a game I'd actually really like to play again, but unlike Chaos Theory, I think it's aged poorly, and the contrast in the OXbox version sucks. There's places where the environment is literally pitch black and I can't see anything.
I'm probably one of the rare few that actually really, honestly, loved Conviction. It's absolutely a gigantic departure from everything Splinter Cell was before, and I did miss all of the old stealth mechanics, but I felt the gameplay better fit the story. At this point Sam is less of a spy and more of a Jason Bourne. Was Mark and Execute handholding overkill for clearing a room? Sure. But you didn't have to use it, and I still found it a hell of a lot of fun. I also really enjoyed Deniable Ops, and the stealth challenges thing (for the life of me I can't remember what it's called, or what you got out of it, but they were basically "Do X" challenges, and most of them were a good time if only because they encouraged you to use more of the gameplay sandbox). I think my biggest gripe about Conviction is that it was just too short. The game receives a lot of flak, sometimes justifiably so, and I can definitely understand it, but I loved it, and I felt like it was a necessary fresh breath of air.
Blacklist almost seemed like where things needed to go following Conviction. A mash up of Chaos Theory and Conviction's mechanics, Sam at the forefront of reforming 3E (or 4E I guess), but so much of the promo demos and stuff just felt off (annoyingly I can't remember specifics of what I didn't like), and then with the cast changes... I'll pick it up and play it eventually, and I'll probably really enjoy it. For now though, it's not something I need to play right away. I appreciate the offer though.
