I've worked with a few genius (in their field) engineering types in my day. They tend to be rather eccentric and generate lots of buzz. Not always a lot of results.

When it comes time to generate results, a whole different type of person is required. It takes special worker bees to translate a few scraps from the geniuses and put it to good use.

My point is that the loss of a genius level employee isn't necessarily bad. They get bored easily and a business might be better off cycling through them.
