what I saw...

Well, from my brief time at E3 yesterday, I can tell you what I saw of Oni (though I must admit, I didn't pay as much attention as I could have... the Halo movie tended to draw a whole lot of it... ;), since it doesn't seem there have been any first-hand accounts yet. If there are, sorry for repeating anything. :)

The trailer of Oni playing started with an anime intro involving a battle between Konoko and some Strikers and what looked like security guards. I must say, Konoko looked... different... in that section. Her hair is longer than in any of the other drawings I've seen, and her face is shaped somewhat differently. Truth be told, it made her look rather masculine. :)

After the trailer, an in-game scene played out in which Konoko infiltrated a warehouse and the offices above it, beating people up all the way. The security guards on the lower levels were armed with machine guns of some sort (and were handily taken out :).

As Konoko climbed the stairs up to the office level, guards on an upper ledge fired more machine guns at her, shattering the glass of the walkway she was running along. After dispatching those two, security guards appeared armed with two different types of energy weapons. The first kind shoots a contrail-trailing (wow, that's rather redundant :) blue ball which explodes into 4-5 smaller balls on impact with a character or a wall. It seems to do a fair amount of damage, killing a security guard with a direct hit. The second type of weapon was a "lighting gun" of sorts - it shot a forking beam of yellow... lightning. :)

The trailer also demonstrated some interesting animations by Konoko, including a "back to the wall/ambush-ready" pose and a move where Konoko slides forward. In the trailer, it was used to get under a low window; I'm not sure if it doubles as an attack or not, though.

The gameplay on PS2 looked nice and smooth and simple to control, though Doug and various other Bungie persons were monopolizing the controller for most of the time I was there. :)

Anyway... that's pretty much what I saw. :) Not the best, I know, but at least it's something, right? ;)
