It's simple-minded to consider it laziness

: Its just a question of laziness with the Oni Team. They didn't keep Par with
: Bungie's Standard, and the delays really took away its hype. Lets hope
: that they build an updater to fix most of the problems.

Why does everyone always think that anything a developer does or doesn't do with a game is laziness? If anything that just shows a lack of consideration for what may or may not have happened in development.

You're assuming that Bungie didn't optimize for the G3 or G4 because they "didn't feel like it." It was said about half a year ago, or more, that Oni would be a simultaneous release for the PC, Mac, and PS2. That meant that every version would have to be ready for the same date. To do that for two OSes and a console - one that's hard to develop for, no less - means that at some point you have to decide what you can and can't do in the time you have left. I'm guessing that G3/G4 optimisations just weren't possible in the available time.

Even so, there's also the fact that you ultimately have to get your game out the door. Bungie may be in a position where they're able to ship games when they think they're ready (rather than some publisher forcing them to), but they can't just work on it forever.

One more thing: I'd like to see how well Oni performs on a GeForce 2 MX with a Mac. The Radeon has poor T&L and poor drivers (so I'm told by some Mac users, although it also applies to the PC from my experience!), and the V5 is both missing T&L and may not have great drivers either. If the GF2 MX also has problems, then you'll definitely be right about the optimisations, but otherwise...
