I think it's a very interesting idea, but keeping in mind that Soulblighter is Damas, and Damas was in charge of hiding or destroying (mind you, the SunHammer could have been destroyed per Connacht's order) the items of power, Soulblighter would have done everything in his power to get to the SunHammer.
1. SunHammer is destroyable:
Damas destroyed it because he was ordered to by Connacht
2. SunHammer is not destroyable:
Soulblighter would have done everything in his power, sent every thrall and other minion to delve deep into the ruins of Stoneheim to get his hands on the SunHammer
Another theory might be that Soulblighter, being one of the bad guys, could not use the SunHammer without destroying himself as well.
