Macbeth is the quintissential tyrannical ruler, a terrible one who does not commit his evils merely as goals in and of themselves, but kills so many people in order to protect his power. His only redemption is the guilt he feels for what he does...not that he overcomes his wickθdness, making him weak.

He's not pure evil, though, no, not like Iago, the rare but very real archetype that only occassionally rears his hideous head in our world; Macbeth is mainly a Stalin, or even a Ramphis.
