Myth and Tolkien

Notice that the characters of Alric in Myth TFL and Gandalf in Tolkiens` "The Lord of the Rings" is more or less similiar. Alric was captured by Myrdred and Gandalf by Saruman the White (who once (liked Myrdred) too belonged to Light but betrayed it) and they (Alric & Gandalf) learned many important things when being captured. So Alric learned about Balors` weakness and Gandalf that Saruman not only betrayed the Light but even betrayed his new master (Sauron the Dark Lord) in his ambition to find the Ruling Ring.
A more similiarity is that maybe Myrdred and Saruman too are similiar characters. They once belonged to the Light and were a mages of immense power (interesting that Myrdred has a spell that turned the enemy to his side (maybe because of that he was named the deciever) and Saruman has a voice so beatiful (and even hypnotic) that no one who heard it couldn`t not to disagree with him (Saruman).
