Learning to Love Hangar Bay #2 | |

A number of people seem to be having trouble with the second hangar bay on Cairo station on legendary. Yesterday, Flechette posted a nice video showing a reliable tactic for clearing the room. Sep7imus has also mentioned a very clever trick to survive the waves of covenant (I tried it; it works). Well, I’ve been playing around with that battle myself, since it’s a pretty good testing ground for general tactics on legendary, and I’ve tried a few different approaches to close the distance between me and the covenant. I figure if I can do it here, I might be able to do it anywhere, with practice. By the way…I re-encoded the videos below using the DivX 5.2.1 codec in order to get them below the 8 MB limit. If you can’t view them, you may need to download and install this codec, which you can find here. Hopefully this works…I’ve never done it before. Sorry about the less-than-ideal video quality. The first is much like Flechette’s method. I chose a different vantage in order to get the elites in a crossfire, and so they’d turn away from me to focus on the marines. I also took advantage of the dual wielding to carry a backup plasma pistol along with me. For anyone just looking to make it through the fight, I’d recommend this method or Flechette's (Or Sep7imus', if you're feeling really sneaky), since it’s probably the safest and most reliable. The second was really an accident. As you can see, the beginning was pretty ugly, and at one point I just said screw it, and charged in for the hell of it. To my surprise, I managed to survive a close-quarters battle, and began to change my approach from looping around the outside to going straight up the middle. The third is pretty much just a refinement of that technique; it’s a bit less reckless than the last one, but I felt much more in control of the battle. Well, hopefully this will be of some help to people. I had been feeling pretty skeptical about the potential for entertaining close combat in Halo 2, with all of the changes and increased difficulty. Now, I’m starting to think it might be more doable than it initially seemed. And that, folks, is why I love these games. :-)
