The checkpoints in the original Halo PC game has problems. It's kind of hard to explain, but most of the usual techniques to delay and trigger checkpoints are not reliable in the original PC version. Sometimes the checkpoints will trigger in the usual places, and other times checkpoints don't trigger at all. Many times when I play AOTCR I won't get even a single checkpoint, even after getting half way through the mission. I rarely depend on checkpoints when playing on the original PC version.
