: I've had no luck doing this in Halo 5's forge. Having barrels hit the ground

Scripted spawning and despawning are fucked up, as are scripted rotation (to a lesser but still significant degree) and scripted movement (to an even lesser degree). To hazard a guess, they might have made explosive objects (and all objects?) not take fall damage so that they can be used in more dynamic and interesting ways (drop in Warthogs and have them be at full health) and even just for convenience of Forging and dropping things from where they spawned (it was a pain in Reach having to get really close to where you wanted a fusion coil before releasing it).
The kill ball method works.
Also, every destructable object (as far as I can tell) can have script hooks on its health. That means when the health drops below a certain point a script action can be triggered (and even multiple actions for different stages of health) and script actions set in scripts on the object can apply damage to the object in a ratio to its total health (so 1.00 will definitely and immediately destroy the object). I've tested this on a fusion coil and it works:
