Improve your characters. I just started playing Undertale, and within five minutes of meeting a character, I can tell you more about them than I can about anyone on Osiris/Blue Team. Good characters can make a bad story bearable.

Okay, two things. Second thing, stop expecting people to read outside lore. Next game, assume no player has read any of the expanded universe material, watched any of the shows, anything (this mostly is for the characters.)
