I think RPG elements are going to dominate this cycle. Halo 5 has adopted a sort of loot system, Company of Heroes 2 borrowed liberally from League of Legend's Rune bonuses, and there's probably a bunch of other games out there that I haven't played yet.
Honestly, what annoys me the most is that cosmetic armor customization is horribly constrained in Halo 5. In Halo: Reach, I knew what I wanted and I could work toward that goal. Sadly, I never unlocked that forearm shotshell rack, but at one time I knew exactly how long I'd have to work for it.
Now, I can only choose my helmet and my armor set, and those are unlocked at random.
