I dislike the idea of any free to play game. F2P (with my completionist mentality) ruined Plants Versus Zombies 2 for me with many plants, features and such being locked behind a paywall. I knew I could play the game without buying those, but because 'they were there', I wanted them. I never bought anything, but my frustration grew as new plants were added behind the paywall until I deleted the app completely.

I really liked davidfuch's idea of only cosmetic items being paid for. Start everyone with the blandest, most basic armor permutation just like everyone else, but let them pay for Recon, CQC, Scout or Hayabusa if they want. Same with skins, weapon skins, those Mass Effect hologram shieldings and visor colors or armor effects (flaming head, stanky head or rainbow movement trails), let them all be paid for. I'd even say map packs would be cool with me as we've all accepted those as pay-for for years on console. That would keep the game and it's gameplay free, while making money off those with too much of it, or too easy of access to their parents credit cards.

As I said before, I don't like F2P and I actually do think less of 343I for allowing this to even happen, but I also didn't have much problem with Halo 4 and enjoyed both the game and the story in spite of the flaws. Things like the hiring of Grim, Canon Fodder itself, this #HuntTheTruth campaign and the Halo 5 beta (and feedback opportunities) really encourage me to believe they've learned at least SOMETHING though from the mishandling of somethings with the franchise. Maybe I'm just an optimistic person in general though?
