The only thing that would really get in the way of you not knowing an allied officer or NCO's status is due to her insignia. The U.S., and by extension the UNSC, has streamlined insignia across all officer ranks. Most nations, especially those of the Commonwealth Realms, have particularly ornate insignia but they're all mostly the same whether you're in New Zealand or in Canada. However, you're probably going to know whether she is someone you need to salute and/or give the general courtesies due if she's an officer or non-commissioned officer, and especially so if she's directly appointed as your superior.
She may not hold that exact rank in your service, but regulations note her rank as equivalent and demand the same respect. Just consider someone in an allied service the same as in a sister service within your own nation's military.
