In Response To: Can't wait to see the final game! (Quirel)

: So, I was close enough to Halo: Homefront's development team to hear the
: arguments about balancing Halo's naval combat, and I was wondering how
: this game will handle it.

: The general rule of thumb is that the UNSC needed a three-to-one advantage to
: defeat a Covenant task force, though I can't remember if that's supposed
: to be a numerical advantage or reference to tonnage. Earlier in the war,
: the Covenant routinely managed a four-to-one or even five-to-one kill
: ratio even when overwhelmingly outnumbered. It's hard to tell what the
: ratio is post-war, because the UNSC Infinity is such a wild card.

: Will the rules reflect this disparity? In fact, since you're the lore guy,
: how much of the 5-1/3-1 shift was caused by improved UNSC tactics and how
: much can be attributed to better ship design and weapons technology?

: Finally, I really, really like the ORS Heavy Cruiser. The Covenant are
: starting to get stereotyped for being overly conservative and hidebound,
: and it's great to see something that breaks the mold. A new warship with
: stealth capabilities? Yes please!

: Seriously, Spartan Games is doing an excellent job! My only worry so far is
: that I will buy these miniatures and not have someone to play against...

: ...

: *Pulls out a map of Washington*

: Looks like the halfway point between Grizzlei and me is either Cle Elum or
: Roslyn...

: Regarding the additional Haloverse entries: Ghost model was first encountered
: in 2526, but the version we have seen in the games is the Type-32, first
: produced in 2532. What are the significant upgrades/changes that warranted
: a new model number?

It's typically held that the T- designation is more associated with the sufficient capture and cataloging of a particular piece of Covenant tech, not necessarily the "date it went into production". UNSC record keeping obviously would have seen some degree of variation - especially in the earlier days in the war. This is why you might see a T- designation of let's say 32, but that not remotely match up to actual production or usage dates by the Covenant. It's important to remember that a human-based perspective on naming conventions and production assumptions is not good to apply across the board when trying to draw certain conclusions about the way the Covenant (or their constituent species') go about certain things. :-)

Glad you're excited about the game, we are too!
