Honestly, I can understand why they would like to have multiplayer achievements. Lots of people enjoy going for them in multiplayer.
I think (and have always felt) that the best solution is either A) to keep single and multiplayer achievements separate in profile stats, or now B) have the ability to choose whether a MP game will allow achievement scoring or not. What would you think if you were to play multiplayer as if the MP achievements didn't exist? That you could turn them off when setting up games? Or choose a playlist that didn't include rewarding? In that sense you could rest in the knowledge that people in that playlist would be caring about the game-play rather than the personal scoring...
No-achievement MP playlists. amirite?
