I keep looking over this and seeing new levels of detail.
What I think I love the most about this is how the weapons seamlessly clip onto the armor via low-profile weapon mounts. The pauldrons even have what looks like macro-Picatinny rails to mount the autocannons.
I'm looking at the helmet, and I can't help but think that the peak can fold down to protect the visor from explosions or armor-piercing bullets. Probably some other gadgetry in there, like backup windshield wipers for when a nonstick coating and repellent electric field isn't enough.
The chest armor is different from what we've seen in the games, but it still looks like a natural fit for UNSC-designed armor. And those lower legs are just sexy.
My only quibble is that there's a metric crapton of weapons, but not much in the way of ammunition storage. That gatling gun is going to suck up ammo like a thirsty horse. The GPMG from Halo 2 might have been a better fit, if it came with that huge ammunition canister.
Yes, I know, it bugs me in the games too.
: While both the Mk I and Mk III are presented as exo-suits significantly
: larger than their operators, I decided to represent the Mk II as a
: smaller, wearable design. I felt that this would make sense from both a
: technical and visual perspective. If I had presented the Mk II as an
: exo-suit similar to the Mk I or Mk III, there would be an enormous
: disconnect between the Mk I-III exoskeletons and the Mk IV-VI MJOLNIR
: armor.
I guess I feel the opposite way. The MJOLNIR powered armor seems like an ideal that the older marks couldn't reach, and thus they were designed as exoskeletons because of technical limitations.
I also like the idea of the Mk. II being a bridge between the Mk. I heavy powered armor and the Mk. III mini-mech, but that's just personal taste.
: As such, I believe it makes sense that at least one of the earlier designs
: would be more closely related to MJOLNIR. Because of this, my goal was to
: work up a design that bears similarities to the later Mk IV and Mk V, but
: looks far more primitive.
Mission accomplished.
: (Additionally: Hello all! This is my first post here. I'm rather surprised it
: took me this long to sign up, given how long I've been into Halo .)
Welcome. Glad to have you here.
