That would be my only problem with this, but from what I've read those books will remain in print.

I thought this was already a well established plan. Did anyone really think they weren't going in that direction? There's way too much stuff in the EU that would be impossible for them to transition into a new movie. Better to start fresh, especially given the age of the actors reprising their roles.
