: I never said what my level of graphical satisfaction was or is.

Well, why don't you, so we're clear?

: It is true that each GPU, including licenced clones, need specific drivers
: and firmware upgrades to work with all types and ages of games. Being an
: old game does not make it immune to incompatibilities.

I didn't say that would change compatibility issues. :? As for drivers, if the company you got your graphics card from isn't keeping on top of driver issues, I'd say you should go with a different company (are they all like that?).

: Playing old stuff may be a cool thing to say these days (lots of people say
: it) but it won't cut it in the long run. Eventually the new shiny stuff is
: all that will be of interest. I can't actually speak for you or guarantee
: you'll not be happy going retro. I know I wouldn't be happy. I'd probably
: give up gaming altogether.

When I said "games that aren't that old", I meant not old enough to be retro. There are a lot of great retro games that run on practically any computer now, but I was saying you can run games from 3, 4, 5, 6 years ago on middle-of-the-road computers that are out now.

(side note: since you brought it up, if you go back far enough, games actually won't have any compatibility issues on today's computers, because early graphics adapters were more standardized and modern systems are backwards-compatible with them, but that would be well into retro territory)
