Well, lets see:

- Mining may be boring, but grabbing a Venture first thing off and mining with it for a while will make your life a lot easier. A mining barge sooner rather than later is also probably the way to go.

- You're pretty safe in high-sec (0.5 - 1.0) space but should still watch for bad guys. And never, ever, ever fire first or respond to a troll with weapons fire. If you do you will be killed by the CONCORD police forces who are quite powerful.

- Scanning may not see that interesting to begin with, but finding hidden areas that provide great items or combat or mining is actually really fun.

- If you need to buy an item, ship, or anything, it is available at Jita IV - Moon 4 Caldari Navy Assembly Plant. Perhaps for a cost, but it is there.
