I agree almost completely, but it's not all on the people who say or might say these things. If you hear it, you should do what you can (within reason) to stop it, and if you're on the receiving end of it, you should ignore it as much as you can. That doesn't mean don't tell anyone it's happening, because you should. In this case "ignore it" means don't respond and don't even really think about what they say. If someone is being physically hurt, or there are even threats of it, anyone and everyone who hears it, sees it, or knows about it should do something about it right away. If you're in one of these situations, you're not alone and there are a lot of people you can talk to about it, and since you're on Internet (otherwise how are you reading this?), you're just a few clicks away from talking about it. IDK if any of that helps anyone, but I can hope.
