I don't remember if I said this to you already or not, but it's not supposed to be impressive, it's supposed to be a mostly blank canvas without much stuff taking up memory, so people can build a lot and have the game still actually run.
I've been meaning to mention also that there are other areas. For some reason everyone I've seen talking about it hasn't noticed the other rocks sticking out of the water, or thought about what could be done with the edges of the tops of the islands, or what could be done with the general shape and profile of the islands, or the very convoluted surface of every side of the islands that isn't the top. You want pre-made non-flat geometry? You saw the size comparison, this map has tons of it, and you'd probably be surprised at how much of it you can walk on. Hopefully (other) people who Forge have noticed this stuff and won't let it go to waste.
