Good stuff. I've traditionally used what you refer to as the recess defense, but my last few times through the game I started hanging out around the pillars since it's a little more dynamic.

I did not know about the spawning mechanics though. I think next time through I'll attempt the disarm method. I've always found shooting their arms off amusing, and I think I've gotten reasonably good at it over the years.
