: Funny thing though.
: While you could say Traviss is: "trying to shove the "HE'S AN
: ELITE THEREFORE UNTRUSTWORTHY LOL LET'S GENOCIDE THEM" aspect in our
: faces"
: The fact is, she has largely portrayed the Sangheili as actually being the
: total opposite.
: They have almost all demonstrated far more trust in Humans than the other way
: around, and this is actually mentioned with Kilo-Five characters noticing
: aspects of this trust which they themselves would not actually return.
: We're actually having the flaws of the humans pointed out to us.
: Kilo-Five was almost hand-picked to be xenophobic.
: Anti-Sangheili sentiment was quite literally in their job description.
: The exception is Phillips, who often gets quite strongly reprimanded for
: displaying sympathy to the 'hinge-heads'.
: A highlight to point out is when Vaz watches the farm workers tear another
: Sangheili to shreds with their bare hands, being completely appalled,
: describing them as savages and stating humans wouldn't do that .
: ...But anyone who knows even a little human history, and be assured KT does,
: knows that Humans are perfectly capable of acts every bit as brutal.
The problem is, we are supposed to side and sympathize with the human characters. They are our gateway into the universe, and since they aren't held accountable for their actions, and in fact are praised for them (and promoted, in Osman's case at least), it seems that the intent of the books is for us to agree that we shouldn't trust the Elites, and that they all deserve to be destroyed. I don't feel like looking up the quote, but I'm pretty sure that even Philips, the only person who gives half of a shit about the Elites, admits that they must be shoved aside for the advancement of humanity. Or something similar.
Unless 343 is actively trying to get us to hate humans, which goes against many of the principles of the original trilogy, something is really skewed about their portrayal and treatment of the Elites (not to mention Halsey, but that's another battle for another thread).
