Need help with Loathing on a Mac

When I try to open Loathing it quits because of an "unexpected type 12 error". It worked fine until tonight when this started happening. I have virtual memory on but it's been on for about a week.

This has happend before and when I fixed the problem (I don't remember how) Loathing could no-longer read any maps created by me before then.
