it sounds like you're using windows. there's a strange bug that occurs sometimes with the registry. it can be fixed with a little twiddling, but i don't know the details.
it requires going into regedit (start menu -> run:regedit) and finding the part to do with loathing then changing the co-ordinates of where various windows appear. to get better info, goto http://vista.theresistance.net/forums/editing/index.cgi? and someone will help you.
