problems with duplicateing meshs

I duplicated a mesh and edited the units and script then made it into a plugin. Works fine in single player but people get OOS went its played as a co-op. I was told to create the mesh from scratch (adding units, .bmp files and tags ect.), because it will conflict with the orginal mesh and cause problems over the net. So my question is, is there an easyer way to do this. I was thinking there must be a way to edit the subgroup id or some way of editing my existing mesh and giveing it a unique id so it not confused with the orginal to which I duplicted it from. How does veryone else who makes different versions of the same map do this? Do they make a new mesh and re-add the units, script , ect..? Sounds tiresome. There must be an easyer way. Hexedit mb?
