Hm. What if this is part of the *current* storyline? I mean, we've previously discussed how the "Levellers are all the same, but Heroes are different" statement by Nine Skull Crocodile could just be his perception based on humanity's personal knowledge of each Great Hero, and relative ignorance of each Leveller.
Forget that the Dark champion is always *called* the Leveller; suppose the true Divinity really switches sides in each age? In that case, every famous hero or Leveller that we know of would be an incarnation of this Divinity. Tireces, then Moagim, then Connacht, then Balor. In each age, the Divine Hero or Leveller fights an entirely mortal champion of his former alignment, and wins. How's that for a nice, simple cycle?
Of course, the cycle would still be broken in TFL, since for the first time the Divine champion lost (barring Alric's being murdered in the near future, or turning out to be the true Leveller, or something).
