: Well, if you insist...

: First of all, I'm disinclined to support any theory
: involving time travel. To me, the existence of the
: Codex argues *against* time travel; the future and the
: past are already written down, so it's probably not
: possible to travel through time and alter them. Also,
: black holes are only associated with time travel in
: the sense that they're associated with spacetime
: weirdness in general; by far the most likely thing
: that happens to an object entering a black hole is
: that its personal time slows down to 0, and it
: effectively gets "stuck" at the event
: horizon and sits there, in suspended animation,
: forever. So I don't think you can say that because the
: Devoid "looks like a black hole" in some
: sense, it's a temporal gateway. Furthermore, stuff
: must fall into the Devoid all the time--rocks, dead
: birds, and so forth--yet there's no record of assorted
: debris constantly appearing out of thin air in the
: past.

Keep in mind, this is a theory of "original intent" by pregame standards. And the few things that may come out of thin air, or fall to earth as meteors, for all we know how the Devoid works—those few things are minor and do noy have to do with the original intent. The original concept is one which DOES NOT take into all consciderations of the world it creates in the end. The World in the end may contradtict a part of the original intent. Therefore, the original intent is dropped in favor of a more accurate concept.

: I know these points don't constitute *proof* that Myth
: time travel doesn't exist. But time travel is such a
: big, important, unusual phenomenon--especially for the
: fantasy Myth setting--that in the absence of proof
: that it *does* exist, I think we should shy away from
: theories which involve it. This is the same reason I
: oppose Forrest's theory of Shiver and Ravanna; it
: requires a fundamental addition to the world of Myth
: (one spirit with two simultaneous incarnations) and I
: don't think we're warranted in making that addition.
: Just because Myth contains some elements we don't
: encounter in daily life--like magic--doesn't mean we
: can assume that every unusual phenomenon we can think
: of is also present. Otherwise, all the Myth characters
: are just puppets of a collective mind led by Rurik,
: acting out these great wars to amuse itself. :-)

: Also, we have a very clear picture of Balor/Connacht from
: Tales of the Fallen Lords, and he doesn't look
: anything like the Head. He looks like he's from
: Northern Europe; fair, with a square face and
: close-set eyes. The Head, on the other hand, is dark,
: lean, raw-boned; basically, he looks like a Jman.
: Which is entirely understandable, since the
: Journeymen/Heron Guards are Bruigs, and the Head was
: found at the heart of the Bruig empire. (So he needn't
: actually *be* a Heron; he just shares their
: ethnicity.)

Again, your propose something not of original intent. :-) The original intent is most visible in the game; and so the original intent is obviously Balor's head THE Head. Originally, the creators imagined the severed heads being one in the same. I'm not saying that time travel is a part of the Myth universe NOW, but the original concept may have called for a minor version of it THEN.
Appearences equally change at least as often. The Shades and Fetch look completely different between m1 and m2; an example of that updating, especially to conform to new concepts behind the images. A new concept would be how the Shades were originally long-dead Avatara (also differently defined in m1) that were brought into undeath. It's now any powerful mage which wished to be turned into such a form, usually an evil mage. That's a SEVERE difference from the original. Such severety in the difference between my suggested original intent and the final plot (as will be revealed in m3 fully) is expected at this point in time. My point is that it is absolutely acceptable to think of the unworked, unfinished concept of the Myth Universe as having crazy things, like time travel, in it. After that, things were changed, updated, and clarified to what we use today. I'm discussing what happened BEFORE that :-).

: Anyway, that's what I think. I was kinda holding off on
: it so as not to disappoint. I mean, we all know how
: when I say I don't like a theory, its creator always
: blinds himself and smears himself with ashes and
: wanders off as a beggar... ;-)

Lol, but I am different! :-) Your ideas and concepts are all sound in a logical universe, such as that of present Myth. However, the brainstorming mind of creator is no such place, and attempts to create many things without taking into conscideration the original intent of some. The solution? "Patch it up to it's decent and ship it out! We have a deadline!" They make the more advanced repairs by the next game; problem solved; our logical Myth universe is able to be discussed on such forums as these. I'm going before all that :-), to the time when everything was different, BlackCompany-ish, and fearful. It's different from today and always will be.
