The evidence obviously points to one conclusion...
The Head is Tirces! As a hero of a dark age he would have been killed by whom-ever making him an enemie with the leveller (balor) and would know about a lot of the Fallen Lords- Expecially Shiver and Watcher since they have been around for a while (He plainly told everyone shiver's weaknesses, and i think he told Watcher's weakness... Alrics not smart enough to figure it out by himself, and he had the plan to get the watchers arm when the head was loyal... Remember the head had them go to silvermines!
Now why would he betray the light? Causing a Civil War in the west? there are two theories I have here and i am not sure exactly what I beleive in.
A. He is still a hero of a light age and thinks that by destroying the west Alric will not retreat and their army will fight harder.
B. He could really have been turned leveller, aka Original Moagim (Explination below) and whent for a Dark age.
Now I think that when a hero becomes a leveller, the hero actualy DOES die but his soul gets reincarnated into a second form. But since undying talking heads aren't all that common, what if a hero got his head cut of? When his soul whent Levellerified into Moagim and put into a different body maybe the head that was still alive from last time whent evil too! Or hes still a hero. We don't know much about the original moagim either, Perhaps the original Moagim WAS just the Talking Head of the army (sorry bout the pun) and when moagim was reborn THEN he got a body.
