: Why the hell is it unbalanced? And of course it would
: work, female anglerfish are much larger than males so
: the male attaches itself to the female and lives off
: her for the rest of his life. Either male myrks have
: enourmous sexual organs or females have very small
: sexual organs. It's perfectly reasonable.
Anglerfish, however, are fish. They pop out a large quantity of eggs with relative ease. Further, anglerfish males don't outnumber the females by more than 3-4 to 1. Small Myrkridia, on the other hand, outnumber Large Myrkridia to 100 to one. That means that 100 males would all be reproducing with a single female (or not reproducing at all). And that a single female, assuming a stable population size, would give birth to at least 100 babies--probably more like 200, given infant mortality--over the course of her life. Which would be somewhat unusual for large mammals.
