: No, we don't know this. It just seems right - the leveler
: isn't about to get killed unless the Light does
: something really ingenious. But I suppose that yes, it
: is possible for a Leveler to be defeated in a
: straight, open conflict.

I would tend to agree that the Leveller would most likely be tricked somehow, but there's no proof.

: Nope, we don't know this. I just assumed that such a
: powerful entity that can survive its own beheading
: would not be the type to fall in an open battle, but
: you know what they say about assume...

The Deceiver was able to survive his own "death", just barely keeping himself alive through magic. Maybe something similar happened with the Head; he didn't have enough power to attack and defend simultaniously, so he was beheaded, and then funneled all his power into staying alive.

: I interpreted the phrase "It was buried" as
: meaning that someone buried it, but I can see how it
: could be read as a natural occurance. I think its more
: likely, however, that it was buried by a person. I
: mean, a living, powerful Head with influence over
: others would not allow itself to get buried.

Exactly! Someone who can turn people to his side would not be buried; he would turn the burier to his side and then not be buried. But if it were a natural disaster (or an unnatural but nature-like occurance such as the blighting of the Empire), it makes sense that lots of folks were buried under thousands of tons of sand and rock, but only this magical head survived.

: On the contrary, I think this is a strong argument. The
: coherence aspect of it is perfect, and it has two
: corresponding instances that support it. It's not 100%
: proven but it is quite strong.

I agree that it would be nice to have such coherance, but I just don't think the evidence is there.

: Not necessarily. I'm not taking the Heads word for
: anything. It certainly has no love for Balor, helping
: the Light by giving it the Codex, the Arm, and Alric
: back (even if it does turn on them in the end.)

I think that we should take the Head's word into consideration, much like that of the Mad Journeyman in the prologue. Not neccesarily as direct facts, but not as falsities either. They've got to have some truth, or else there's no point to including them in the game, unless they are disproven later (which can be used to establish character), because if they're not, you've just got a useless falsity floating around.

: These are not idle similarities! If Bungie did not intend
: for the Head to be a former leveler, they sure went
: out of their way to trick us into thinking so.

I think Bungie left a LOT of information out WRT the Head. What happened to him? Who is he? What were his motives? And another big anomoly, from Myth II, is WHO THE HELL IS THIS SUMMONER GUY!? What kind of lunatic would ressurect the Myrkridia, and not even be in command of them; just sit in some caves fondling skulls. Both of these seem to be unsolved or unsolvable mysteries of the Myth world; maybe we'll get the answers in Inf... er, Chimera. :-)
