: I don't think it's actually very common. Being drawn and
: quartered means having each of one's limbs tied to a
: horse, and then smacking the horses to make them run
: in all different directions, tearing the person into
: four parts (hence "quartered"). And I would
: think that the person would usually be alive (hence,
: with his head) when this is happening, because it's a
: method of execution, so why quarter someone if they're
: already dead?
: (I dunno why they beheaded him first in Braveheart).
: Yes, it is very weak evidence.
: Circular logic. You're assuming Moagim was beheaded
: because he's the Head, and you're assuming the Head
: was Moagim because he was beheaded.
: True.
The theory is internally coherent though, and has at the very least two pieces of direct corresponding evidence - Balor and one other leveler. You have to agree it does seem logical.
: Do we know any of the others were tricked? All we know
: for sure was that *Balor* was tricked - we just know
: how the others were executed.
No, we don't know this. It just seems right - the leveler isn't about to get killed unless the Light does something really ingenious. But I suppose that yes, it is possible for a Leveler to be defeated in a straight, open conflict.
: We don't know this. All we know about the Head is that he
: claims to have been a former lieutenant of Connacht
: (the biggest monkey-wrench in your theory)
Nope, we don't know this. I just assumed that such a powerful entity that can survive its own beheading would not be the type to fall in an open battle, but you know what they say about assume...
: Obviously :)
: Was it gotten rid of? It may have just been lying around
: in Muirthemne when the Empire was blighted, and got
: buried under sand and rock in the process. All we know
: is that somehow, it ended up buried under a bunch of
: sand and rock out by Muirthene.
I interpreted the phrase "It was buried" as meaning that someone buried it, but I can see how it could be read as a natural occurance. I think its more likely, however, that it was buried by a person. I mean, a living, powerful Head with influence over others would not allow itself to get buried.
: My main rebuttal, aside from the weakness of the
: every-Leveller-is-beheaded theory,
On the contrary, I think this is a strong argument. The coherence aspect of it is perfect, and it has two corresponding instances that support it. It's not 100% proven but it is quite strong.
:is that if you're
: going to take the Head's word that he was an old enemy
: of Balor (not Connacht, Balor - they're the same
: person, but not), you should take his word that he was
: a lieutenant of Connacht too.
Not necessarily. I'm not taking the Heads word for anything. It certainly has no love for Balor, helping the Light by giving it the Codex, the Arm, and Alric back (even if it does turn on them in the end.)
To answer somebody else here: No, it doe not mean there are 5 levelers still alive. The spirit of the Leveler exits the body when the Leveler is "killed." Whats left could still be imbued with great power, however.
I think the greatest thing in support of this theory is that
a) Balor is beheaded. The head is still alive. The Light tries to get rid of it by throwing it deep into the earth.
b) The Head is beheaded. It's still alive. We find it buried under tons of rock and sand
These are not idle similarities! If Bungie did not intend for the Head to be a former leveler, they sure went out of their way to trick us into thinking so.
