: Actually, I got the feeling that the Myth2 fight was a
: much easier one than TFL.
Yes, I know how you feel. But still, it wasn't an SUPA easy fight, even though less desperate than TFL, that's for sure.
: TFL's story was one of
: absolute desperation; cities falling one by one while
: your army dwindled and you finally faced Balor with a
: few dozen men.
That feeling of a lost cause, that crying into the night sky emotion of TFL was the factor that made it the best game of its time, coupled of course with revolutionary gameplay.
: In Soulblighter, on the other hand, the
: Light defeats the Dark in pitched battle as often as
: not; there's much less need for sneaky stratagems. It
: always feels to me like the tricks in
: Soulblighter--finding the Deceiver, recruiting the
: Trow--were just frosting. They helped the Light to an
: impressive victory, but they weren't vital to the
: cause.
I think that without the Deceiver, the Summoner would still live and the Myrks would overrun the lands eventually. Plus the BigD killed a SB crow, which is why SB couldn't flee from Tharsis, which was in turn his downfall. The Trow were the last essential tipping point, perhaps the Light could have won withot them, but the death toll would be sickening.
: It's true that the Province's army in Soulblighter is
: apparently weaker overall than that of TFL, but the
: gap between Soulblighter's army and Balor's is even
: greater, IMO.
I still think the Myth II army is better trained and more efficent than TFL's ragtag survivor camps. Soulblighter's army was formidable because of the Myrks, whom Balor lacked. Otherwise he would be far inferior when compared to Balor's, rather than just plain inferior :)
