Yeah, the Wind Age was a Dark Age. Moagim and the unnamed Great Hero of that Age both died; of the remaining forces, the Dark had the upper hand. So humans and Dwarves and everyone barely survived, but they were constantly terrorized by the Myrkridia (and, one would assume, by Ghôls and things as well.)
The difference between that age and now is that Alric, whom most believe to be the Great Hero, did *not* die along with his nemesis, and he was able to rally the remaining Light forces and accomplish a triumph. If Alric dies, most likely the rest of the age will be definitely Dark.
