This can be very much true. If you look at the place where ol' Strand is... it is mimicking Italy somewhat.
You have a long chain of mountains going through it, a chain of mountains in the north.
Then the coast flows on and it looks as though it can curve down and make that Greece. Which it don't show.
And in the ancient times, the east, was considered pretty much untamed with all the desert men and Asians with all their crazy things and tactics.
Though Myth never ellaborates on The Untamed Lands, it could simply be a land with a few cultures that are very intelligent like the Chinese and the Middle East people. Though you had your black temples and the place Soulblighter went to learn new secrets, you can relate that to the Europeans taking the east as a completely uncivilized place with crazy people. So thus, you have your Untamed Lands.
