They're Champions. They're used to risking their lives for the greater good. If the odds were so hopeless that they wouldn't even dare to attack Phelot, then *Phelot* would have attacked *them*, secure in his greater power.

Actually, it would heighten the action. Give you something to do instead of just sitting there for 5 minutes while Myrdred drains Shiver's life. Think of how you hold off the enemies on The Forge while Alric duels with Soulblighter.
