Except for one thing, he was delusional at the time. Remember how he was in a daze from either magic or just being in the desert for too long and all he could do was follow your units around? Well chew on this, he follows you up to Sinis, then in his delusional state, hits some forgotten memory pocket from a past life and slips remembers Sinis from his Moagim days. Sinis somehow recognizes Alric's change and they fight. The combat either jolts Alric awake or he goes up the hill and teleports y'all away in his Alric/Moagim state. He then either forgets all of it, is confuzzled by it or realizes who he _really_ is ::cue musical soundtrack::
