In Response To: Huge reply (Welly)

: The Lurker is a she, yes know I remember, just I wasn't
: thinking when I was typing I guess. But was that the
: name in the Eidos pre-release info pages? Or did they
: have Bonesplitter instead?

Pre-release had "Bonesplitter," GURPS had "The Lurker," games didn't have either.

: That GURPS theory is interesting, but not much more in my
: mind :) Personally I think he didn't die at all but
: was pretty darn close, the only thing keeping him
: alive was his immense magical preservation abilities
: kicking in. Any other man would have been bagged.

That's pretty much what the GURPS theory is saying, though. Super-sorcerers can survive things that by rights should kill them--freezing to death, being impaled, and so forth--because they can figure out all sorts of sneaky magical tricks to keep a spark of life in their body.

It's not that they actually die and come back to life--it's just that every time they *should* die, they figure out a way not to. So you might as well think of it as "extra lives."

: But when your body erupts and your corpse is thrown over
: 50 feet in separate pieces, well, then your dead, no
: matter what magic you have. Which is why there is no
: question in my mind that the ole fart is finally
: bagged.
: But why did he go out like that? After just defeating his
: nemesis? I think it shows how what goes around comes
: around for the Dark, and even the genius and master
: mage he was, he underestimated the power of Shiver's
: death blast.

A bit surprising that Shiver can unleash a blast like that by accident, though, when she could barely scratch him with all her power before...

: Also, I think Rabican only semi-killed Shiver in that
: famous dream duel. Sure he blasted her body, but her
: soul went instead to the "ether" which
: clearly is not the Myth afterlife, called the
: "One Dream." Which is why Soulblighter was
: able to bring her back, cuz she wasn't 100% dead. What
: Sublighter did to her was totally different than what
: he does to Thrall: he RESTORED her, but for Undead, he
: Creates then from scratch with the Dream of Unlife and
: puts it in a body. Clearly Shiver's body is not
: exactly "alive" like normal people are, but
: it isn't Undead either, because her mind is there, not
: some Dark aniamtion magic like in Thrall, Wights,
: Ghasts, those Skeletons from Chimera, etc.

Shiver was indeed not fully killed. This is explicitly stated in GURPS and in the Shiver flavor text, and poetically alluded to in Tales. Rabican tore away Shiver's spirit and nuked her body.

: But then how do Myrmidons have their minds, you might
: ask? Aren't they Undead? No if you ask me. They were
: Still Alive when Balor gave them some kind of
: immortality dream, but to their dismay, the
: immortality was for the soul to stay in the body
: forever, not to prevent aging! Which is why they are
: decaying. Shows us thatno deal with the Dark ever
: comes out to what we think is to our advantage. Myrms
: lost all they held dear: their appearance, cuz they
: were friggin vain in the membrane.

Myrmidons and Shades are both undead. It says so in GURPS, and Myrmidons are killed by healing (I checked.) They're immortal in the sense that their minds are still present in their bodies, whereas Thrall and Wights and so forth are pretty much mindless heaps of rotting flesh.

Apparently, the term "undead" just refers to the nature of one's body, not to whether or not one's mind is still present. If you're walking around but you're not breathing and your heart isn't beating, you're undead. Doesn't matter whether you're conscious or mindless--you're undead.
