I'd go for the "archer is somewhere else" argument. According to the narration, it was hours after the close of the whole coronation ceremony that the Myrkridia actually arrived in Muirthemne; so the Giant shown in the cutscene must be en route but not actually there yet. I'd guess they were coming from Forest Heart; that's where the Krids were centered because of the Tain. The scenes of the archer, then, would show Krids heading north out of Forest Heart before crossing the Barrier to Muirthemne. The timing still has to be fudged a bit, though.
