In Response To: Sex, drugs, and theoretical physics (Forrest of B.org)
: I've actually got a theory which explains WHY your
: "view" rotates in spacetime, as well as
: other cool things like explaining nuclear-electric
: forces in the same way as gravity yet they still repel
: likes instead of attract as in gravtic wells, and why
: your mass appears to increase as you accelerate.
: Basically, it holds that the Fabric is elastic, but has a
: sort of inertia to it by which it tends not to stretch
: or compress unless really forced to. When a gravitic
: or electric charge-well moves in space, it tends to
: compress the space in the direction it's moving, which
: resists the compression and instead bends in a
: direction opposite the well, like a swell in front on
: a moving buoy in water (the opposite side develops a
: trough as space is dragged out behind the moving well,
: creating the opposite charges seen in fast-moving
: nuclear-electric particles - magnetism).
: Since space is then curved in an uneaven manner around
: the object creating the well, the object has a
: tendancy to tilt, as it is effectively trudging
: "uphill" against its own swell. This
: produced both the temporal dialation, as your
: orientation in spacetime has changed, and explains the
: problems exceeding the speed of light (which is the
: speed at which effects propagate through the Fabric;
: so the swell in front of you is always moving faster
: than you, and you can never go over it, but the faster
: you try to go the bigger the swell gets as space is
: compressed more, and the more force is needed to move
: against it any further).
: I can explain how all this related to the history and
: fate of the universe too, if you'd like. (I've got a
: radical new idea on the universal
: expansion/accleration/collapse).
I think you tried to explain all this to me before. I want it in math terms! Physics without equations is reserved for Deepak Chopra. ;-)
I'd avoid invoking more forces and influences than you're trying to explain. For instance, if you ask the question "Why do fast-moving objects appear have more mass?" and answer it with "Because moving mass points compress the region of space-time ahead of them, and objects moving into compressed space-time experience an opposing force," you've basically gotten rid of one unexplained phenomenon but substituted two more. The theory should be simpler than its results. :-)
(Incidentally, fast-moving objects exhibit higher inertia in all directions. It's not just harder to speed them up; it's harder to slow them down or push them to the side.)
