: Chatting with Pfhor on RHL just now, debating a
: Top-Secret™ theory of his, I came across an
: interesting idea, the only evidence against it being
: the connections between Alric and Moagim.
: See, what if Alric ISN'T the Great Hero? What if the
: cycle went normally, and the Great Hero - the unnamed
: Emperor of the Cath Bruig - died in 2431? But then,
: who is Alric? Just some avatara? No. Alric is the most
: powerfull archmage ever to live... the only one who
: could possibly break the cycle... ALRIC IS MAZZARIN
: REBORN!
: A piece of supporting evidence of this: look at the
: picture in GURPS where it mentions "One
: Other". Who is that, and what is he doing?
: Hehehehe...
Other possible arguments against it:
Mazzarin was still around, in Shade form. (Doesn't bother me because I don't think it's the same Mazzarin, but some might argue it.)
Alric wasn't an amazingly powerful mage during TFL; Murgen was probably more skilled and I'd bet Rabican was more powerful. Sure, this could be because Mazzarin's reincarnation was just coming into his own, but then how was he able to arrest the cycle?
Why did the comet wait until Alric's ascent to appear, rather than rising to herald the Great Hero out in the Cath Bruig?
Could even Balor take out a Great Hero in one shot when he destroyed Muirthemne? (I suppose you might argue that this *was* the reason he went to the trouble of nuking the whole Cath Bruig empire--so he could be sure of ending the Hero's threat fast.)
Shouldn't Alric have more of a connection to the Watcher? They don't particularly seem to care about each other. Nor did Alric want to get rid of the Watcher himself.
