: Ummm... gor'Ash doesn't exist. Creation made him up, and
: while it's a cool story, it's not canon by any means.
: We know that b'Y'laggo feeds of the dying breaths of
: her enemies, but as far as we know, the bre'Unor sat
: around picking their noses during the great war. Also
: I think the dying breaths have to be enemies of the
: bre'Unor, killed by bre'Unor (or sacraficed mb). I was
: presenting a possibility of why the fir'Bolg didn't
: stay allies with the West and the rise of the bre'Unor
: was one of my suggestions.
According to GURPS, the bre'Unor ally themselves with the Dark and leave the Ermine to go on raids and things during major wars; when the Light has firm control of the regions around them, they retreat into the forest and content themselves skirmishing with the fir'Bolg and harassing anyone at the Ermine's edge.
I don't think the fir'Bolg really needed a reason to return to their customary isolation. The end of the Great War was reason enough. This wasn't one of those Star Trek alliances where each side suddenly sees the other's good points and they're friends forever after; it was a marriage of necessity and it ended when the necessity did.
